If you are applying for Medicare or have been approved for Medicare and you are under the age of 65 than your health was obviously an issue. This can be a stressful time. Most people did not know that Medicare Supplement Plans are available for people that are under the age of 65. This is only the case if someone is on disability. There are a couple of things to keep in mind in regards to these plans. Premium rates can range by up to 200%. These rates are determined by the companies after approval from the state in which they sell at. Not all Medicare Supplement Companies sell Medicare Supplements for people under the age of 65.
A Plan F is the same with company A as a Plan F with company B. All Medicare Plans are standardized. When you go to the doctor the main concern for them will be the type of plan not the company behind that plan. The reason why is because all of the carriers will pay the identical amount for coverage.
When turning 65 there is what you call a “Guaranteed Issue” status this allows anybody regardless of health to be approved for coverage. This period of time is the same for a person under the age of 65 that is starting Medicare. You can apply up to 3 months before, the month of, and 3 months after your start date of Medicare Part B. So a grand total of 7 months.
A Medicare Supplement Plan like (F) will allow medical expenses that lead to large out of pocket costs to not be an issue. This is because the F Plan will pay for the majority of all that Medicare will not cover. This is nice to know if you are on a fixed income and need your fixed costs to be as low as possible.
